Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on Friday stated that the Central government has agreed to finance the proposed water treatment plant at Guirim, which would provide 24-hour water supply to residents of Porvorim, Saligao and Calangute.

He was speaking at the Vijay Sankalp Mahamelava organized by Porvorim BJP Mandal at Porvorim.

Taking a dig at Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte, Parrikar said, “Development of Porvorim constituency has been done by BJP and not by local MLA. If the State government had not sanctioned the projects and released funds, how would the development of Porvorim take place?”

“If residents of Porvorim elect the BJP candidate, then there would be all-round development of Porvorim,” assured Parrikar.

Speaking further, Parrikar said the government needed to be stable for proper planning and to undertake developmental works, adding that this stability could be achieved by absolute majority.

“Since the people of Goa elected BJP in the 2012 elections with absolute majority, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar could drop two ministers from the MG Party. If people elect BJP again in the assembly election in 2017 with absolute majority, then BJP would endeavour to develop Goa on the lines of Mauritius and Singapore and provide corrupt-free government to the people,” said Parrikar.

Chief Minister Parsekar said six of the seven constituencies in Bardez taluka were represented by BJP.

“Now, it is duty of residents from Porvorim constituency to elect the BJP candidate and make Bardez a stronghold of the BJP. The State government is interested in development of the State and development works are being carried out in all the 40 constituencies,” he said.

BJP Goa State president Vinay Tendulkar and Bal Bhavan president Kunda Chodankar also spoke on the occasion.

Porvorim BJP Mandal president Mahanand Asnodkar welcomed the gathering, Rajkumar Dessai compered the programme, while Kishore Asnodkar proposed the vote of thanks.
