Centre to fund four-lane Assonora-Tivim bypass road project: Halarnkar

MAPUSA

Fisheries Minister and Tivim MLA Nilkanth Halarnkar said the Union government will fund the four-lane Assonora-Tivim bypass road project which will be taken up post-monsoon.

“It’s a project which has been pending for a long time. Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has assured to take up the work on the bypass road. The entire project will be financed by the Centre,” Halarnkar said.

The Fisheries Minister was speaking to journalists after launching road hot-mixing works in Tivim.

Continuing, Halarnkar said that he had taken up the work on the Assonora-Tivim bypass road when he first became a minister in 2010.

“The former MLA who took over after me failed to follow up on the project and therefore it got stuck for quite some time. In the last two years, we could not take up the work due to Covid and the resulting financial crunch,” he said and assured to take up the work after the monsoon.

He said the bypass route has already been chalked out and land for the project has also been acquired.

The Tivim MLA launched hot-mixing of the State highway from Karrasvaddo to Assonora at Rs 6.50 crore.

The entire road stretch was in a bad shape and locals had been demanding the repair and hot-mixing of the stretch for a long time.

“The hot-mixing of the road will be completed before the approaching monsoon and thereby the long pending demand of the locals will be fulfilled,” Harlarnkar said.
