In a bid to provide better premises for Anganwadis, Women and Child Development Minister Vishwajit Rane said the State government will deliberate on enhancing the rent paid for their spaces.
Stating that the provision to rent out Anganwadi premises is meagre as per Central government schemes, Vishwajit said he would speak to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on ways to work out some formula to enhance the rent.
"Funds come directly from the Central government schemes for Anganwadis, and there is capping on different fees. We have to enhance the rent or else, people do not provide us with a place on rent for Anganwadis,” said Vishwajit.
Vishwajit admitted that many Anganwadis are in bad condition and the government is trying to shift these Anganwadis to better premises.
“Around 270 Anganwadis, which were in a poor condition, have already been shifted to primary schools. Of the 1,272 Anganwadis in the State, around 18 are being rebuilt in Dharbandora and Sattari. A modern Anganwadi is being constructed through GSIDC, the minister added.
