Urging the youth to dream big to make Goa the number one State in the country in all parameters, TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai on Thursday lamented that certain lobbies, within the State and outside, have been working overtime to bring Goa down, saying the future of Goa should be left for the Goans to decide.
The TCP minister further reminded that Goa has all along been a progressive and liberal State, while saying that it is now the responsibility of the young generations of Goans to take the State forward.
Speaking at a function organised to hand over laptops to Std XI and XII students under the cyberage scheme of the government on Thursday morning, the TCP minister said it is indeed unfortunate that some lobbies are working hard to bring down Goa. "A lawyer friend of mine from Vancouver-Canada told me the other day that there's death in the city due to opium consumption, but one does not find anyone making a hue and cry. In Goa, we have seen how certain lobbies were at work to tarnish the image of the State in incidents involving foreign nationals," he said, while lamenting that there's too much focus on negative things in the State.
Saying that India is considered a young nation, Sardesai said the young are the biggest voter base in the country, adding that the youth should be proactive in politics as well.
"Goa is a liberal and progressive State. The cyberage scheme, which was started in Goa, is a symbol of modernity. Under the scheme, the government gives the young students something which they can actually go forward. The government feels that the future generations should be equipped and empowered to take the State and country forward," he said.
Saying that the previous government had missed the IT bus because of lack of foresight, the TCP minister said the present government is committed to provide opportunities for the engineers passing out from the institutes with a proper start up policy.
