The new chairpersons of the Mapusa, Quepem, Sanguem and Valpoi Municipal Councils will be a female councillor as Directorate of Municipal administration has reserved the apex post in this four municipalities for women in order to fulfill the clause in sub-section (1) of Section 10 read with Section 9 of the Goa Municipalities Act, 1968.
The Director of Municipal Administration and Urban Development Gurudas Pilankar has issued a notification reserving the post of chairperson for a woman in the four municipalities.
The elections in Mapusa, Quepem and Sanguem municipalities are not yet held as the election date for Mormugao, Margao, Mapusa, Quepem and Sanguem municipal councils, are yet to be announced.
The Director of Municipal Administration and Urban Development is required to specify under sub-section (1) of Section 10 read with Section 9 of the Goa Municipalities Act, 1968, the seats reserved for the Office of Chairperson for Women in the Municipal Councils on rotation basis.
In 2005 the seats reserved for the Office of Chairperson for Women were Mapusa, Quepem, Sanguem and Valpoi. In 2010, Bicholim, Curchorem-Cacora and Mormugao chairperson posts were reserved for the women. In 2013, Ponda chairperson post was reserved for the women. In 2015, the seats reserved for the Office of Chairperson for Women were Margao, Canacona, Cuncolim and Pernem.
