Chandor p’yat to levy 30 per cent fine on house tax defaulters

The Chandor gram sabha on Sunday has resolved to levy 30 per cent fine on house tax defaulters if they fail to clear the tax dues for three years.

At the Sunday gram sabha chaired by Sarpanch Edward D’Silva, the gram sabha gave its stamp of approval for Rs 1.16 lakh deficit budget.

The sarpanch explained the members that the penalty has been mooted in order to mop up revenue for the panchayat. He pointed out that the 30 per cent penalty will be levied on households which has failed to clear the dues of the three years, adding that the panchayat would start the process to issue notice to the house tax defaulters.

The panchayat also unveiled the renovation and development of the market, but said that the panchayat will go ahead with the plan only after it receives the NOC from the local church.
