MARGAO
Even as the South Western Railway is bracing up to permanently shut down the Chandor railway crossing from May 1, Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao has on Sunday said the decision of the South Western Railway to close manned level crossing at Chandor will cause total inconvenience to school children, devotees going to Church, locals from Guirdolim visiting market and others.
In fact, Yuri has demanded that both the underpass and the level crossing should be kept operational.
Railway officials, however, said the notice was issued for the permanent closure of the railway crossing after obtaining NOC from the district Collector.
The South Western Railway has already installed notices about the permanent closure of the Chandor level crossing. In fact, notices have been put up near the level crossing and other areas, informing the people of the decision to permanently close the crossing for vehicular traffic from May 1. What, however, remains to be seen is whether the railways will shut down the crossing from May 1 or after some time.
Former Guirdolim Sarpanch Agostinho Antao on Sunday informed that the road closure will affect the people of 2-3 wards of Guirdolim village since the buses, which were plying on the road, will now no more service the road.
In fact, Agostinho pointed out that a host of suggestions were made to the authorities to improve the road network, before the Chandor level crossing is permanently closed for traffic.
