Chaos continued to prevail at the Karnataka-Goa border check posts on Thursday, after dozens of vehicles from Goa were sent back by Karnataka officials at the Anmod check post for failing to comply with Covid travel guidelines.
Amid a sharp rise in Covid cases across Belagavi and North Karnataka region, Karnataka police have intensified checking at Goa’s borders. Only those passengers with a double vaccination certificate and an RT-PCR negative report of not less than 72 hours were allowed to enter Karnataka border.
While goods and other vehicles transporting essential commodities were allowed to enter Karnataka after the drivers produced the double vaccination dose certificates, Karnataka officials sent back cars and other passenger vehicles.
“About 35 vehicles were sent back to Goa for not carrying the RT-PCR negative report,” said PI Vinod Reddy of Ramnagar police station, who was personally monitoring the situation along the Belagavi-Goa route via Anmod.
He said Karnataka government’s guidelines are strictly being implemented at the border check post.
Similar checks were also being implemented at the Kankumbi check post by Khanapur police along the Goa-Belagavi route via Chorla.
All vehicles were checked and those not carrying the RT-PCR negative report were not allowed to enter Karnataka, police officers said.
