VALPOI
A 36-hour power outage in different parts of Nagargao-Sattari left locals fuming and a number of them staged a protest at the Valpoi power office on Thursday evening.
Angry residents from Satre, Maloli, Kodal, Dhave, Nanoda and Bambar in Nagargao were furious over the power outage and remained at the power office till Thursday night, refusing to leave the place till officials came to meet them.
According to officials, power supply has been disrupted due to a breakdown in power cables in the village and repair work was being carried out on priority.
Speaking to reporters at the Valpoi power office, aggrieved locals said the power outage began at about 8 am on Wednesday and despite complaints, the electricity officials had not taken quick action to restore power supply. This had prompted them to protest at the Valpoi power office late Thursday evening, where they remained there for the next two hours.
Claiming that erratic power supply has been a constant problem since the last three years and the situation has worsened since the underground cables were laid, the locals said there is a lot of delay in repairing the cables.
When contacted, Valpoi Assistant Engineer (Electricity) Deepak Gawas admitted that the problem had arisen on Wednesday morning due to a breakdown at many places.
He, however, added that repair work was completed at about 10 pm and that, power supply was restored to the affected areas.
