Chapoli dam yet to reach its best capacity

The Chapoli Dam, the lifeline of the people of Canacona, continues to struggle below 35 RL, which is well below the seasonal capacity even in the last week of July.

According to the taluka observatory, the water level at Chapoli Dam is about 34.51 RL (Reduced Level), which is far below last year's corresponding figure of 37.28 RL.
Incidentally, the seasonal rainfall is also well below mark and pegged at 1,645 mm on Tuesday. This is in deficit of about 377 mm as compared to July 25, 2016.
During last year, the Chapoli Dam had attained the storage as rainfall had touched 2022 mm in the corresponding period.
Last year however, the dam attained its maximum capacity of 38.75 RL only in mid-September month, informed sources.
However, in 2015, the rainfall at this time of the year was also less at about 1445 mm.
