In what will be a major boost to tourism activity in the State, Airport Director S V T Dhanamjaya Rao on Tuesday said the Goa Airport had got a request for charter flight slots from eight destinations.

"As of now, we have received a request for slots for the arrival of charter flights from eight destinations of Tel Aviv, Kuala Lumpur, Bahrain, Russia, Almati, Gatwick, Manchester and Muscat,” Rao told reporters.

“These are the destination from where we have got request for slots to operate charter flights and approval for slots are in the pipeline. The slots have been applied by airline operators like Scat Air, Rosiya, Aeroflot, Gulf Air and Arkia Airlines.”

“Besides the charter flights, we have regular international flights operating from Dabolim Airport to London, Dubai, Muscat and Sharjah," said Rao.

Rao said the Dabolim Airport run by the Airports Authority of India will continue to operate and have scheduled flights even after operations commence at Mopa airport.

"Authorities have also clarified that Goa will now have two airports for the State for domestic and international flights. As of now, Goa international airport is operational and the competition part between the two airports will be known later. Definitely, both airports will run systematically. There is no division between category of flights operating at both airports which will continue to get domestic and international flights," said Rao.

"There are no issues at all regards business and it finally, I believe it depends on passenger bookings at the airport of their choice based on flights available. Airlines and passengers can now come to any airport of their choice and airlines can also choose the airport they want to fly to or operate from," said Rao.
