Chaudi vegetable market to operate from today

The vegetable market in the newly-constructed GSUDA market complex at Chaudi is finally set for operation from Saturday.

All the 35 shops have been allocated and the allotted have started shifting their items in the allotted spaces on Friday evening.

After being at the receiving end on Tuesday, Canacona Municipal Council (CMC) Chief Officer Amul Gaonkar on Wednesday issued official order for allotment of plots by draw of lots to the 35 vegetable and flower vendors registered with the council.

As planned, three representatives of the chief officer were present on Friday morning to conduct the lots process in the presence of CMC Chairperson Prathana Naikgaonkar and other councillors.

It was a smooth conduct of lots. Except for three councillors including a member of the ruling group, all others were present and actively took part in the process.

Chairperson Naik Gaunkar, Vice Chairperson Samita Dhuri, councillors Shamsunder Dessai, Hemantkumar Naik Gaunkar, Guru Komarpant and Nitu Dessai were present.

Councillor Diwakar Pagi in the presence of team Goenkar said he will be keep a check on new market personally as regards to its cleanliness.

The Goenkar team also assured to help in terms of cleanliness and plastic usage and the new market would set a benchmark for all others.

The Saturday market will also be cleaned and shifted within next the couple of weeks.

Goenkar president Jack Fernandes while welcoming the move said, “We thank the ruling council and GSUDA for this.”

The market is set to go into full operations during the weekly Saturday Bazaar day this Saturday.
