CHICALIM

In a rare show of unity, the Chicalim Panchayat on Sunday held a peaceful and productive gram sabha, where locals and panch members discussed key civic issues and later felicitated Sarpanch Kamla Prasad Yadav for helping build 1919 Sportz, Goa’s largest private cricket stadium at Verna IDC.

Panch member Francisco Nunes said the meeting reflected growing cooperation between villagers and the Panchayat. “The gram sabha went off peacefully, and several important issues were discussed,” said Nunes. “We resolved a long-pending problem of handcarts being left unattended in public areas. It was decided that handcarts must be taken home after business hours and not left stationary overnight. Another issue was random parking of vehicles, and we agreed to introduce sopo fees to regulate parking and ease congestion.”

Nunes said highlight of the meeting was the felicitation of the Sarpanch. “Locals and panch members came together to honour Sarpanch Kamla Prasad Yadav for his efforts in helping set up the 1919 Sportz Stadium — Goa’s largest private cricket facility. He has done commendable work in promoting sports and bringing pride to Chicalim,” Nunes added.

Expressing gratitude, Sarpanch Yadav said teamwork and unity within the Panchayat were the main reasons for its success.

“Our Panchayat has received several state and national awards because we work as one team, beyond politics,” said Yadav. “Every local query is addressed respectfully during gram sabhas. The people are not our opponents — they are the ones who elected us. Healthy discussions help us make collective decisions for the good of the whole village.”

Yadav also shared his plans to make Chicalim a model self-sustained Panchayat. “We aim to make our village stronger by creating multiple sources of revenue and streamlining Panchayat operations,” he said. “Since I became Sarpanch, we have introduced uniforms for staff so residents can easily identify them. We’ve also set up a reception desk that provides information and directs people to the right departments for faster service.”

He added that improving public interaction remains a top priority. “We’ve instructed staff to treat every visitor politely and resolve their issues quickly,” Yadav said. “The staff are the Panchayat’s first point of contact, and their behaviour shapes our image. We want every citizen to feel respected and well served.”

The meeting ended on a positive note, with villagers, panch members, and the Panchayat leadership pledging to continue working together for Chicalim’s progress.
