After parts of Vasco City complained of water shortage for three days, Chicalim locals have complained that they have not had proper water supply since the last 11 days.
Chicalim panch members Roman Vaz and Fransisco Nunes along with Capt. Viriato Fernandes and a number of residents marched to the PWD office in Baina on Wednesday evening to demand an immediate solution to resolve the issue.
Speaking to reporters, Capt. Fernandes said the area near Regina Mundi School in Chicalim did not have water supply for the last 11 days.
"We understand the PWD situation as water supply was disrupted from Selaulim due to a power shutdown. We have been quiet for all this while but we cannot take it anymore and we are forced to come here because we don't have water for the last 11 days,” said Capt. Fernandes.
“Though the PWD is doing its best and trying to send water by tankers, we find that they have only one tanker for the entire Taluka and they get tankers from other areas in emergency.”
“The government is sanctioning large numbers of residential colonies and mega projects but sadly, they can't give water to people who are already living here. We have now reached a stage where people will soon revolt for water and we need a permanent solution soon.”
“I have spoken to PWD Engineer Vishwambar Bhende who has assured to visit our area and take stock of the situation once the water is released," said Fernandes.
Chicalim Panch Fransisco Nunes said the people had been suffering without water supply for as many as 11 days.
"We have been living here for over 40 years and while we are giving them water in tankers, some people, especially senior citizens are unable to carry the water from the ground floor to the third floor by steps. Something has to be worked by the PWD in a way that they at least give a minimum of one hour of water supply per day in full pressure," said Nunes.
Chicalim Panch member Roman Vaz also spoke on the occasion.
