MARGAO
The Chief Minister said that the well-equipped Mobile Medical Unit will go a long way in providing medical relief to the people of Canacona.
Rotary Club of Margao Midtown informed that it all started with a chance meeting between a doctor who happened to be a Rotarian and a corporate honcho over a cup of tea being interrupted by a call from a social entrepreneur talking about a lady and her son and how she couldn't be at work as she had to walk 30 minutes to the closest clinic as her son was sick.
This was in one of the small villages in Khotigao area of Canacona where the Government's robust and well-oiled health machinery could not reach, simply due to logistics and terrain. The corporate honcho then offered to look at CSR or other grants to fund a facility thus was born the Mobile Medical Unit.
"This van was envisaged to travel to various villages where healthcare will be available to local villagers and they do not need to travel long distances for basic health needs,” the member explained.
