Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar resigns amid coalition strain in Haryana

In a significant political development, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar tendered his resignation on Tuesday, citing internal discord within the ruling alliance of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Jannayak Janata Party (JJP). The move comes ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, revealing fractures in the coalition.

The BJP asserted its strength with claims of 41 MLAs and support from 5 Independents, surpassing the halfway mark of 45 seats in the Haryana assembly. Khattar submitted his resignation letter, along with the entire cabinet, to the Haryana governor, marking the end of his tenure.

Tensions escalated between the BJP and the JJP, led by Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala, as negotiations for a seat-sharing agreement for the Lok Sabha elections faltered. The BJP, having secured all 10 Lok Sabha seats in the state during the 2019 elections, faced challenges in maintaining the alliance's unity, leading to Khattar's decision to step down.
