The over half-a-decade row dogging Chinchinim villagers over the nature of project that should come up on the land acquired for a public utility project seems to be finally over, with the village gram sabha giving its nod for a panchayat ghar-cum-multipurpose project on Sunday.
This is the second time the gram sabha has strongly rooted in favour of the panchayat ghar-cum-multipurpose project. The taken on Sunday at the meeting chaired by Sarpanch Inacinha Rebello comes days after the panchayat body had resolved in favour of this project on the acquired land.
The villagers had been literally divided over the nature of project that should come up on the land acquired during the tenure of incumbent MLA Filipe Neri Rodrigues during his previous stint somewhere in 2011. While a panchayat ghar-cum-market complex was proposed during Neri’s tenure, the project was subsequently opposed by a section of villagers, who strongly rooted for a multipurpose project on the acquired land.
While the gram sabha on Sunday gave its nod for the panchayat ghar-cum-multipurpose project, it was
also decided to identify suitable land for the construction of the market complex in the village.
The gram sabha further decided that the panchayat take local MLA Neri into confidence on the construction of the project given that he is a member of the Town and Country Planning (TCP) Board.
The gram sabha also dwelt at length on the burning migrant issue facing the village, besides issues relating to sanitation thrown up by tenants. Members pointed out that the migrants putting up in the village should be brought under the scanner by conducting a tenant verification drive. Some members suggested that the Goa police should furnish a list of tenants staying in the village to the panchayat to cross check the number of migrants registered with the police station.
