A Vasco-based social activist and businessman has said the Inox theatre at Panaji must have CCTV surveillance for areas in and around the complex, after he lost valuable documents and money from his car parked outside the theatre.
Documents and money belonging to Niyazi Shaikh were stolen after some persons smashed the window glasses of his car, which was parked in front of the Inox theatre along the main
Panaji-Miramar road.
Expressing shock over the incident, Shaikh has filed a complaint with the Panaji police and also plans to write to Inox and Entertainment Society of Goa to install
CCTVs, for the safety and security of cinema lovers visiting
the theatre.
Speaking to reporters, Shaikh said the incident took place as he along with his wife had gone for an evening show of a movie at Inox
in Panaji. “Since the parking at the Inox parking lot was full, I decided to park my car on the main road right outside the Entertainment Society of Goa. But on returning from the movie, I was shocked to see my car windows smashed and my office bag and my wife’s purse missing
from the vehicle.”
“I immediately asked Inox if they had any surveillance system for me to check but I was surprised to notice that that there were no CCTV cameras there.”
“When I complained, the Inox official told me that the main building is managed by the Entertainment Society of Goa.”
“At a time when even a small stall has CCTV, it was more shocking to learn that there was no CCTV at the entrance of such a prestigious and heritage building, which houses the International Film Festival of India every year,” said Shaikh.
Shaikh said he was surprised by the audacity of the thieves to smash the glass of his car along the busy Panaji-Miramar road.
“With increasing crime incidents, there could be more serious crimes like sexual assaults on women in the dark after a late night movie show. It’s high time Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) installs a surveillance system to ensure the place is safe for all,” said Shaikh.
