The arrival of a Chinese ship at Berth 11 of Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) caused panic among people in Vasco City, as the berth is close proximity to the Kharewado shore and the fishing jetty.
According to the MPT site, the ship “Dong Hai Xia” had arrived in the port to carry granite blocks. Sources at MPT said the ship would be departing from MPT on Friday. “The ship is a Chinese ship and is come to carry granite blocks. The ship cargo will be completed and the ship will leave by Friday evening. The ship may be Chinese and the crew are also Chinese but the ship has arrived in MPT from Kandla Port.”
“The ship was cleared in Kandla Port from where she has directly arrived in MPT. The ship and the crew also don’t have any history of visiting China or any Covid-19 affected counties in the recent past. It was only after all necessary clearances that the ship called in the port. There is no such panic situation as such and people must not fall prey to any rumours.” said the source. When contacted, Health Minister Vishwajeet Rane said separate guidelines were given to the port and it would act as per the guidelines. “Ports have been given thermal scanners and they have been using it. Besides this, cation, no foreign cruise ships are being allowed in Indian ports till March 31.”
