The Goa University has called off the all important once-a-year meeting of its academic council until further notice in deference to the precautionary measures of avoiding large gatherings recommended through a series of advisories issued in connection with the fight against the global COVID-19 pandemic.
The 52-member academic council was to meet over two days to deliberate on a multiple-point agenda and will now be called as soon as the situation limps back to normalcy, according to an official of the Goa University. It was also slated to discuss and resolve some issues raised by the student community, including the fee structure and the protocol for refund of fees related to applications for revaluation of answer sheets.
Educational institutions in Goa including all colleges affiliated to the Goa University have been shut down since Monday up until March 31, after the State government ordered a lockdown to tackle the threat of the global pandemic.
However, faculty members and non-teaching staff continued to report to work and remain present on campuses but University authorities are now considering relaxing the stipulation after governments, both Central and State, have advised a ‘work-from-home’ regime wherever possible.
