As a couple of international flights from high risk countries are expected to land at Dabolim airport, South Goa district Collector Ajit Roy descended at the TB hospital, Margao to take stock of the quarantine arrangements in place in South Goa.
The district Collector, who inspected the quarantine facility at the TB hospital, which is presently playing host to the four Air India passengers that arrived in Goa on March 9, along with Deputy Director, Health Services Dr Ira Almedia, made a fervent plea to the people of Goa in general to behave responsibly and cooperate with the health authorities to control the problem as early as possibile. After inspecting the quarantine facility at the TB Hospital, the district Collector told The Goan that since international flights are expected to land at the Dabolim airport from high risk countries, the administration is gearing up to bump up the quarantine facilities at the TB hospital, ESI hospital and the Chicalim hospital.
“We have three categories of people depending upon the screening result at the airport. First, passengers who have no symptoms, who will be advised home quarantine. Second category of passengers includes persons with no symptoms, but have life style disease issues such as diabetes and high blood pressure. This category of persons will be housed in mass quarantine facilities at the TB hospital and ESI hospital”, he said.
The Collector further said high risk category persons will be directly taken to the Chicalim hospital before they are referred to the GMC, Bambolim for treatment.
To a question, Roy said when the entire country and the world is battling coronavirus, everybody should behave responsibly and cooperate with the authorities. “My appeal to each and person, who is present in Goa, to cooperate with the authorities to control the problem as early as possible,” he added.
