What the Mapusa civic body could not do for last several years despite having the powers, COVID-19 has done!
The Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) chief officer on Thursday has directed the municipal inspectors to seize all unauthorized and illegal handcarts dispensing food items and to stop all illegal and authorized sale of pan masala, gutka and allied products within municipal limits.
He said the directions were issued as part of preventive measures against COVID-19.
“The municipal inspectors are directed to seize all unauthorized and illegal handcarts dispensing food items if found in the municipal limits. The inspectors should also stop all illegal and unauthorized sale of pans masala, gutkha and allied products,” said Clen Madeira, Chief Officer of Mapusa Municipal Council.In his order, the chief officer has also directed all restaurants, eateries, juice parlours, food stalls, kiosks, street food vendors to use disposable paper/organic leaf plates, wooden spoons, paper cups and pater straws to dispense food items and ensure that such plates, spoons, cups and straws were not reused.
He also said that all the restaurants, eateries, juice parlours, food stalls, kiosks, street food vendors shall ensure that their cooks, waiters, helpers use facemasks and sanitize their hands before cooking/serving the customers.
On Wednesday, the chief officer had issued a notice advising the public, litigants and lawyers to avoid coming to the municipality and if it was necessary to visit the office they should compulsorily wear masks.
He had also suspended public visiting hours and requested the public to submit their complaints and applications at the inward counter.
