Given that the beach wears a dirty look with no waste collected and disposed of by any contractor, the panchayat has resolved to immediately dash off a letter to the Tourism Department to engage and clean up the beach immediately. r The sarpanch has told The Goan that the new body has decided to take on the garbage issue head on and give relief to the villagers. As per the decision, the panchayat has invited a garbage disposal contractor and have asked him to submit a detailed proposal and plan on the waste disposal door-to-door. “The contractor is expected to submit his report to the panchayat body on Monday. He has been told to give a detailed report, whether the door-to-door garbage will be lifted on a daily or weekly basis and the charges,” Anthony said. Replying to a question, the Sarpanch said that the Panchayat will start the exercise with the collection of dry waste initially. r On the contaminated Colva creek, Anthony said the body has taken a decision to dispatch the resolution to the Water Resources Department to take up the work on a priority basis. r“Right now, with water flowing from the creek, the waste from the water body seems to have disappeared. But, the panchayat would like to take up the desilting and beautification as part of long term measure,” Anthony said.
