They have demanded that a judicial commission be tasked with probing the cases of desecration. r“The team strongly feels that the arrest appears as a familiar script to similar crimes across the country to pacify the civil society and the affected communities and divert attention from the actual perpetrators,” the statement jointly signed by the two organisations reveals. r“The extensive damage caused as witnessed by the fact-finding team could not have been possibly inflicted by a single person, more over who is 50 years old. The fact-finding team demands an impartial investigation,” the statement adds. rInstead the CSJP and the CSSS have said that the Hindu nation conclave recently held in Goa could have provoked such incidents. r“The general perception of the community pointed to certain statements at a Hindu conclave and during the visit of a National office bearer of the political party in Government as possibly encouraging such incidents,” they said after returning from their visit. rA five-member team had visited the sites of desecration and burial places across South Goa on July 14.
Church casts doubts, says lone arrest appears ‘scripted’
The Council for Social Justice and Peace CSJP, the social arm of the Church in Goa along with a like minded body, Centre for Study of Society and Secularism (CSSS) has cast aspersions on claims by Goa Police and State administration that the accused Francisco Pereira is alone responsible for desecrations across Goa.
