Churchill credits tiatrists, priests for preserving Konkani

Former PWD Minister, Churchill Alemao has said that Priests and the tiatrists have been primarily responsible in protecting Konkani in Roman script over the years.
Speaking at the golden jubilee show of the super hit Konkani Tiatr Soccorina at the Ravindra bhavan, Margao, Churchill said “if at all, Konkani in Roman script has survived in Goa over the years, it is primarily because of the Priests and the Konkani tiatr stage artists”.
Complimenting Soccorina tiatr director Menino de Bandar for achieving the unique feat, Churchill hoped and prayed that the tiatr, which had hit a double century in the 80’s, will complete the 300th show in the near future.
Speaking on the occasion, Zilla Panchayat member Maria Rebello complimented Menino de Bandar for his achieving the rare feat of completing the golden jubilee show.
In his address, noted tiatr director, Mario Menezes, while complimenting Menino de Bandar, drew attention of the audience to the fact that halls are not available to stage tiatr in Panaji.
In his reply, Menino de Bandar thanked all the people, right from his troupe to the musicians, the audience and everyone who has contributed to the success of the tiatr.
