Saying that criminal cases are bound to be slapped when one is into politics, Trinamool Congress MLA Churchill Alemao has said the pending criminal cases against him do not bother him since they are all politically motivated.
In fact, Churchill pointed out that he has been given a clean chit in the PWD case when the court had recently discharged.
“When you are into politics, one is bound to get these cases. There was not a single case against me when I was working as a seaman. But, the moment I entered politics, a number of cases were slapped on me, some of which have ended in discharge or acquittal”, he said.
Addressing the media, the TMC leader demanded that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant keep his promise and raze down the illegal structure at the Old Goa heritage site, warning that the BJP may not even win four seats if justice is not done at Old Goa.
“The Chief Minister had assured action against the illegal structure, but the ground reality has not changed till date. The people are still agitating in support of its demand to demolish the structure”, he said.
While saying the authorities have been going slow in initiating action against the illegal structure, Churchill cautioned that St Francis Xavier will not keep quiet if no action is initiated against the illegal structure.
Turning his tirade on the Hindutva elements for trying to foist its agenda on the people, Churchill said citizens of India are free to practice their religion.
“In the past, I had led from the front to oppose the screening of the Da Vincy Code and had condemned the threats issued by some elements to disrupt the novenas of St Joseph Vaz at Sancoale”, he pointed out, adding that he would always lead from the front to protect his religion.
