Citizens as well as motorists made a fervent plea to the traffic and PWD authorities to install traffic signals at the Aquem Power House junction to regulate traffic and put a stop to accidents at the circle.
In the absence of traffic signals, motorists claim that the circle plays host to traffic snarls from the circle to the Rawanfond bridge almost every day. Motorists have pointed out that the heavy traffic plying on the eastern bypass does not slow down or halt at the traffic junction, resulting in accidents. The Aquem Power House junction is connected to 3-4 major roads, including the road going to Davorlim, the eastern bypass, traffic coming from Aquem and the outgoing traffic flowing from Rawanfond.
A motorist Dinesh Kakodkar demanded to know why the PWD or the traffic police have not installed traffic signals at the Aquem Power House junction till date.
“Heavy traffic plying on the eastern bypass try to bulldoze their way at the circle. They are neither signals nor speed breakers to regulate the heavy flow of traffic. May be the authorities have some plans for the Aquem Power House junction, but they can very well install the traffic signals and mitigate the hardships faced by the motorists,” he added.
A resident of Davorlim, Anand Sawant pointed out that people from the village find it difficult to enter the Aquem Power House junction in view of the movement of heavy traffic flowing from the eastern bypass.
“We have to wait for a long time to cross the junction to enter Margao because heavy traffic from the eastern bypass neither halts nor slows down at the junction,” Sawant said, while urging the traffic and PWD authorities to intervene and stop the accidents.
