All the waterfalls in Sattari taluka were packed with a large number of people on Sunday, while the city areas were overcrowded.
Multiple traffic jams were reported throughout Sunday.
Due to the heavy rains, crowds of citizens gathered to enjoy the monsoon waterfall in various parts of Sattari taluka. This has been seen to have a favourable effect on the market of Valpoi.
Similar crowds are expected in the city areas of the taluka for the next four months during the weekend. A large number of tourists are also expected to visit the waterfalls.
Meanwhile, according to sources, almost all the waterfalls in Sattari taluka saw a queue of tourists since morning.
The tourists visited Pali, Charvane, Hivre, Saleli, Kodal, and other waterfalls in the Sattari.
Heavy showers have caused all the waterfalls in Sattari taluka to flow. Citizens thronged to bathe at these waterfalls. Pali, Charvane and Hivre areas witnessed repeated traffic jams.
In view of the large crowds thronging the taluka, the Excise Department officials at various places carried out inspections of several vehicles moving towards the waterfalls. They also seized some liquor bottles during the inspections.
Inspector Hanumantrao Desai said that punitive action has been taken against many. All vehicles going to the Chorla Ghat area were stopped at Keri and inspected. Similarly, vehicles going to Belgaum via Pali were checked at Jambhul Junction.
Under the guidance of Valpoi Police Inspector Dinesh Gadekar, police arrangements were made at the waterfall. Gadekar said that this arrangement has been made to prevent the pilfering of tourists.
