Chimbel local's family refuses to accept body till police probes death as murder

OLD GOA
The family members of Jayesh Chodankar, whose death was clouded under mystery, have refused to accept his body till the Old Goa police probe his death as murder.
Speaking to reporters after meeting Old Goa PI on Sunday, wife Jaya informed that the police insistence that it is an accidental death is not acceptable to her family as she alleged that it is planned murder.
"My husband was done to death in a planned manner. Therefore we demand justice and want the police to probe his death as murder and add section 302 against both the accused as well against others involved. Until then, we will not accept his body," Mrs Chodankar informed.
"There are more than two persons involved in my husband's death and we want the other persons involved to be interrogated so that they reveal the truth," Mrs Chodankar stated while adding that as of now, the accused persons are roaming freely and the one's who are witnesses in the case are being interrogated.
Throwing more light on the incident, Mrs Chodankar questioned how come her husband was found with his legs smashed more than 1 km away after he was assaulted with rods.
"Can someone assaulted with rods walk a km and then get run over by a vehicle? That is impossible and we say that he was taken in a vehicle, thrown on the highway road and then a vehicle was run over him," she claimed and demanded that the police investigate in this direction and not treat it as an accident.
"We have already submitted call recordings of one person who had threatened my husband that his legs would be broken to kill him and that's exactly what has happened," Mrs Chodankar pointed out.
Meanwhile, sources inside the Old Goa police station stated that they just cannot term Chodankar's death as murder until they have evidence to prove it.
"Even the post-mortem report is not supporting that it was a murder as it has stated that he died of haemorrhage," the source said.
"But on our part, we have not ruled out anything and we are still investigating. If the family members or anybody have any evidence to suggest that Chodankar was taken in a vehicle and then his body thrown on the road, they should share it with us," the police source said.
It may be recalled that Jayesh Chodankar was found injured with his legs smashed moments after he was abducted and assaulted, on Wednesday night.
Chodankar was allegedly run over by a vehicle near a garage along the Merces highway road. Later, Chodankar breathed his last while undergoing treatment in GMC.
However, questions were raised by the family as to how Chodankar was found injured in this manner a kilometre away from the spot where he was seriously injured after being hit by rods.
