Panaji’s streets are abuzz with activity just days ahead of the mega show in the capital city as Directorate of Film Festival (DFF) officials start descending on the State from today in connection with the 47th International Film Festival of India (IFFI).
Preparations for the eight-day film festival, scheduled to begin this Sunday, had started earlier this month with beautification projects including cleaning pavements and the promenade as well as replacing electricity poles with LED-powered bulbs.
Work outside the main venue at Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG), Panaji and the Miramar Circle has also begun. In addition to the ticket stand at ESG, this year the organizers have also set up another counter at Kala Academy to dispense kits and tickets.
DFF officials will inspect the preparations when they arrive in the state on Friday. ESG Vice Chairman Rajendra Talak had assured that the film festival-related work would be complete by Saturday evening, just in time for the Sunday inaugural. Other preparations were also in place.
“This time we will not give any chance for people to complain about the festival. This time we have gotten required permissions from the FDA and other required departments. It has now become routine as police know how to function,” said Talak.
This year, the festival’s concept worked different from last year, as the company, TLG was awarded the tender for the city’s decoration worth Rs 6.55 crore.
Spanish films Tamara, The Son of War and Don't Forget About Me and Sinhala film, Aloko Udapadi have been listed under the world premiers. International films including According to Her, Two Birds One Stone, Like Cotton Twines, Alma De Sant Pere, A Dragon Arrives and Keepers of Magic will be premiered at the festival.
