PANAJI
The town and The town and country planning board on Friday approved inclusion of ‘Panaji city’ in Greater Panaji PDA in effect giving the capital city’s legislator Atanasio Monserratte his share of the bargain in the recent political upheaval in which 2/3rds of the legislative wing of the Oppostion Congress crossed aisles to join Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant’s government.
Monserratte, who was recently appointed chairman of the Greater Panaji Planning and Development Authority won the jurisdiction of the prized capital city over North Goa PDA Chairman and St Andre MLA Francis Silveira who had reportedly opposed removal of ‘Panaji’ from his jurisdiction.
When asked about Silveira’s opposition to the move, TCP minister Chandrakant Kavlekar said that the Board had received no written objection.

Mapusa, Candolim, Calangute, Parra and areas in jurisdiction of civic bodies of towns in North Goa are now still under NGPDA. The Greater Panaji PDA earlier included only Taleigao, Bambolim and Kadamba plateau and the Panaji area was excluded from it.
It may be recalled that earlier in 2017 North Goa Planning and Development Authority (NGPDA) was split into three separate planning and development authorities (PDA’s) - the Mopa airport PDA, North Goa PDA and Greater Panaji PDA.
Taleigao MLA Jennifer Monserrate, St Andre MLA Francis Silveria, St Cruz MLA Tony Fernandes and Cumbharjua MLA Pandurang Madkaikar are the members of the new PDA. The Sarpanch of village panchayat of Taleigao, Chimbel, St Cruz, Old Go and Curca-Bambolim-Talaulim, are other likely members of the committee.
