Social activist and Secretary, Colva Civic and Consumer Forum, Judith Almeida has expressed her shock and surprise over the decision taken by the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority to hear the application filed by a party concerning the Silver Sands hotel when the Apex Court has cleared the decks for demolition of a portion of the Colva-based hotel.
In a letter to the Chairman/Member Secretary GCZMA, Judith questioned the arbitrary grant to the applicant on January 29 in the matter of Hotel Silver Sands, Colva without issuing any notice.
“As Secretary of the Colva Civic and Consumer Forum, I was present before the GCZMA to attend two other matters for which we had received personal hearing notices. I was surprised when immediately after the hearing in these matters were concluded, the OSD Mr Joglekar who was conducting the meeting called for hearing of the Silver Sand Hotel matter knowing all the facts,” she said.
Judith has raised a serious objection at such an arbitrary manner in which a case is sought to be reheard, further demanding to know whether it was an attempt to sabotage the entire due process of law followed in the matter. “We reserve our right to take measures to prevent any unlawful actions,” Judith told the GCZMA Chairman and Member secretary while enclosing orders of the NGT and the Supreme Court for their perusal.
