GOACAN has on Saturday called for an inquiry by the Department of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (DCSCA) into the circumstances that led to the death of two women consumers due to fire linked to domestic LPG cylinders.

GOACAN Coordinator Roland Martins in a press release said that the inquiry be conducted by Civil Supplies Inspectors to determine whether the dealer supplying the LPG refills had conducted the Mandatory Mechanical Check (MMC) which is a safety check to be done once every two years and whether the date of the same was endorsed on the Domestic Gas Consumer Card.

"Whether insurance available to LPG Consumers in such cases of injury or death will result in compensation being paid to the families of the deceased women. Safety awareness is required to be done in the locality for the benefit of LPG consumers.
