Union Minister Shripad Naik has stated that a civilised society is formed only through education and added that education is also the hallmark of the new generation.

Lauding the services of the education institution Centro Promotor De Instrucao (CPI) in Canacona, Naik said the institution had created generations of well-educated citizens over the past 100 years.

“It was a difficult task to run or even form an educational institution during the Portuguese regime. However, it’s the handiwork of revolutionary Cankonkars who took up the challenge and laid the foundation for upliftment of society in Canacona,” Naik said.

He was speaking as chief guest on the second day of the concluding ceremony of the centenary celebrations of CPI at Char Rasta, Canacona.

Canacona Municipal Council (CMC) Chairperson Ramakant Naikgaonkar, senior journalist Raju Naik, Director of Archaeology Nilesh Phaldesai, CPI President Shamba Naik Desai, (CPI General Body), Chairman Rajendra Desai, Secretary Suraj Bhaireli, Secretary Pundalik Naik Gaonkar, Treasurer Ramesh Komarpant and the president of Parents Teacher Association were on the dais.

Raju Nayak said teachers not only make students, but also work to make villages, talukas, towns, cities, states and even build countries.

“Education provided by CPI is qualitatively better than many city schools in the State. While providing education to students, teachers must look beyond and provide them with knowledge other than what is taught in classrooms and textbooks,” Nayak said.

CMC Chairperson Ramakant Naikgaonkar advised parents not to impose their will on their children, but to let them pursue education in the field they like and make their own career.

“CPI’s decision to install a statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji at the entrance of the school complex is a matter of pride for all Canacona residents as Shivaji Maharaj is seen as symbol of truth and righteousness,” he said.

Naikgaonkar further informed that the CMC had considered the problems faced by the CPI-run Shri Mallikarjun Vidyalaya and had donated a bus to the school at a cost of Rs 20 lakh. He assured further support to the school.

Director of Archaeology Nilesh Phaldesai also spoke on the occasion.

Anil Phaldesai, Satish Desai, Ram Desai, Vihar Desai, Vinod Sawant, Varsha Naik Gaonkar, Varsha Naik, Pramod Rane, Gauresh Desai, Premanand Naik Gaonkar and Avind Naik Gaonkar were also present at the function.

On the occasion, dignitaries from various fields were felicitated and meritorious students were awarded prizes.
