Stability tests done on 5 old buildings in Canacona

CANACONA

A stability test was conducted on five old buildings, including one municipal-owned building, which have been considered unsafe in Canacona municipality.

The Canacona Municipal Council (CMC) had sought a stability report from the Goa College of Engineering, Farmagudi, on the five old buildings, including one of its own old municipal buildings in their jurisdiction.

A team of experts from Goa College of Engineering conducted the stability tests on all five old buildings, even though businesses continue to be conducted in those structures.

The experts tested the five old buildings in the presence of Municipal Engineer Dilkush Dessai and other staff.

Confirming the development, CMC Chairperson Ramakant Naikgaonkar informed that the stability tests was conducted on the orders of the Court.

Gaonkar further stated that if the GCE experts declares all or any of these buildings as unsafe and dangerous, the trade licences of the traders/businesses conducting business in these buildings will not be renewed, and possibly revoked.

“Further, if any of these buildings is likely to cause any damage or harm to public and other properties, then the demolition of these dangerous and unsafe buildings will be considered by the municipal council”, Gaonkar added.
