The upcoming Lok Sabha elections in North Goa have set the stage for a historic showdown between two stalwarts of Goan politics “ Shripad Naik of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Ramakant Khalap representing the Indian National Congress (INC).

NAIK’s FIRM GRIP
Shripad Naik, a seasoned BJP campaigner, has etched his name in the annals of electoral history with five consecutive victories in the North Goa Parliamentary constituency.
His journey began in 1999 when he secured a landmark victory, defeating the formidable Ramakant Khalap of the INC, who then had held the esteemed position of Union Minister.
Since then, Naik has not looked back and maintained a firm grip on the constituency, securing re-election successively, a feat unparalleled in the region.

On the opposing end stands Ramakant Khalap, a revered figure within the INC ranks, who has embarked on his fourth electoral campaign for the North Goa seat.
Khalap’s political acumen and grassroots support have been evident since his victory in 1996 under the banner of the Maharastrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP), followed by subsequent bids with INC affiliation.
Despite facing setbacks in previous elections, Khalap remains a formidable contender, his candidacy backed by the long-standing legacy of the Congress party in
