MAPUSA
A fire erupted in the fields opposite the Bodgeshwar Temple in Mapusa on Sunday morning around 11.00 am, sending plumes of smoke billowing across the area.
The fields, strewn with dry grass and garbage, quickly became engulfed in flames, prompting a swift response from Mapusa firefighters.
Utilising two fire tenders, the firefighters engaged in a gruelling battle against the blaze for over three hours before finally bringing it under control.
The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time, although a senior fire officer suggested that incidents of dry grass catching fire in these fields are an annual occurrence.
However, the presence of accumulated garbage in the fields exacerbated the situation, intensifying the flames and posing a greater challenge to extinguish.
Despite the daunting task, the firefighters managed to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby vehicles, swiftly relocating them to safer locations.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of maintaining cleanliness and vigilance in areas prone to such fires, emphasising the need for proactive measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
