Emphasizing the moral and social responsibility of priests in guiding people on matters of right and wrong, residents in Mapusa have expressed solidarity with this practice, asserting that it is not only acceptable but also necessary in the current socio-political climate.
Advocate Mahesh Rane, a resident of Mapusa, highlighted the significant role priests play in shaping the electoral conscience of their followers.
He noted that priests frequently advocate for the election of morally upright and non-corrupt candidates, a sentiment echoed by many in the community.
Rane emphasized that such guidance is not limited to the Catholic faith, citing similar efforts by swamis in temples who urge their congregations to vote responsibly.
Joining the chorus of support, RTI activist Jawaharlal Shetye underscored the importance of individuals speaking out against perceived injustices and governmental wrongdoings.
