This year, the main theme for the Manohar Parrikar Vighyan Mahotsav, under the Department of Science and Technology, will be Climate Change, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced on Tuesday. 

A host of scientists from various parts of the country, including Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan awardees have been invited to give addresses over two days of the festival, Sawant informed.

The Manohar Parrikar Vighyan Mahotsav will take place on December 12 and 13 at NIO Dona Paula to commemorate Parrikar’s birthdate on December 13, he said.

Addressing a press conference at his official residence, the CM said that the festival would also be held at four additional locations to give the general public and Goan scholars to interact with the scientists and other notable personalities who were being called to speak.

While the inauguration of the event will be held at 12 noon at the NIO on December 12, addresses on December 13 will be held at NIO, Government College Sankhali, Ravindra Bhavan Margao, Government College Pernem, 

and Government College Quepem.

The speakers at the festival are: Padma Bhushan Dr Vijay Kumar Saraswat, Padma Shri Dr K Vijai Raghwan, Padma Shri Dr K S Kiran Kumar, and other noted scientists Dr Shailesh Nayak, Dr Shekhar Mande, Dr J Srinivasan, Dr R R Navalgun, Dr S K Tandon and Dr Ashok Mishra.

The State government is also signing two MoUs -- one with CSIR, and the second with the Principal scientific advisor to the Government of India, who will pick out the scientists to give future talks for the annual festival.

There will also be a photography exhibition for eight days starting December 13. The venue is still not finalised, but the exhibition will be open to all, the CM said.

Foundation stone for School of Law on December 13
PANAJI: The Foundation stone for the School of Law at the Goa University campus will be laid on December 13 if all the formalities are complete before that, CM Pramod Sawant said on Tuesday. The School of Law is being set up to offer courses such as a post graduation degree in law, doctorate in law, and diploma courses in law, he added.
