Fishermen along M’rahstra, Goa coasts warned

After a long spell of summer heat and cloudy skies over the past couple of days, the capital city finally witnessed a downpour early Thursday morning, bringing in the new academic year.
While there was no large change in the maximum temperature according to the Met Department, light to moderate rain occurred at fairly widespread places over the entire state. The Met Department however maintained that temperatures were “appreciably above normal over north and south Goa.”
However, there was a marked fall in the minimum temperature which were below normal over both districts. The maximum temperature of 35°C was recorded at Panaji and Mormugao, and the minimum temperature was recorded at 23°C at Panaji and Mormugao.
Mapusa, Pernem, Panaji and Sanquelim received rainfall of two centimeters each and Old Goa, Canacona and Murmugao received one centimeter each.
A small note for farmers: the Met Department has forecast light to moderate rain/thundershowers over many places across the state, and heavy rainfall over isolated areas over the next five days upto 8:30 am on June 11. However, the department has not issued any warning for farmers. The Met Dept has however issued a warning for fishermen for five days upto June 11. For coastal areas upto 75 kilometers, squally weather is likely along and off the coast of South Maha-Goa to Karanataka over the next 24 hours. In light of this, fishermen are advised not to venture into sea.
