The monsoons are almost here but the Public Works Department, it seems, is hoping to defy the weather gods and has floated several tenders to execute pre-monsoon works of repairs to a number of government buildings in Panaji and Margao only on Tuesday last.
The tenders are to be opened on June 12, following which actual execution can begin once work orders are issued, which could be well after the rains actually hit Goa as estimated by the Met department.
PWD’s Executive Engineer, Works Division I (BLDGS) has floated a tender on June 4 inviting bids for pre-monsoon repair works at the Archives Annexe Office housed at the Old IPHB Building in Altinho. Also, contractors have been invited to bid for more pre-monsoon repair work at the Traffic Cell housed in the same building complex.
The combined value of both is around Rs 1.5 lakh.
Also, another tender has been floated for pre-monsoon repairs of the roof of government quarters at St Inez at an estimated cost of around Rs 29.2 lakh.
Also the pre-monsoon miscellaneous works to A, B and C type police quarters building at Porvorim has also been tendered at an estimated cost of around Rs 44.9 lakh.
Tenders will be opened June 12 so actual work by the contractor is expected to start only at the end of June. Period of completion is from one to four months for all these works which extends well past the traditional monsoon months. The executive engineer of Margao Division VIII has also floated a tender on May 29 for pre-monsoon works at Government Complex Sonsodo in Curtorim Constituency with an estimated cost of around 4.28 lakh. The tender will be opened on June 13.
