The Congress Legislature Party at its meeting has extended full support to the agitators against the projects which stand to harm the biodiversity at Mollem. It also demanded a full-fledged session of Goa Assembly to discuss these and other issues plaguing Goa.
Speaking after the meeting, Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat said, “The CLP has decided to demand a full-fledged Goa Legislative Assembly Session in November or December 2020 in which MLAs should get sufficient time to raise issues concerning the people. I will write to the Speaker demanding an early session.”
At the meeting, CLP discussed the three projects, including the double-tracking, widening of National Highway 4A and laying of power transmission line which pose a threat to Goa’s environment as these three projects pass through Bhagvan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary and Mollem National Park.
“CLP unanimously resolved to extend full support to people’s protests and agitations raising concerns about the mass destruction to the environment and identity of Goa. We will actively participate in these protests,” Kamat stated.
Kamat informed that the CLP condemned the ignorance shown by Union Minister for Environment and Forests Prakash Javadekar on the three projects during his last visit to Goa and criticized his statement that he had received no representation pertaining to the Mollem project even while Goa Congress had written to him on July 31.
The CLP members also expressed concerns about the three anti-farmer laws brought in by the BJP Central government.
The prevailing Covid pandemic situation in Goa was also deliberated upon and the CLP lauded the efforts of the Congress cadres in helping the people during the lockdown as well as by reaching out to people with medicines, sanitizers and masks.
Congress MLAs raised the issue of rising debts of the state and the failure of the government in financial management. Similarly, the deteriorating law and order situation was also discussed at length.
