Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Sunday appealed to citizens to actively report cases of drug addiction among youngsters to the State government authorities including police so that those affected can be admitted to rehabilitation centres and receive timely treatment.
Sawant made the appeal while addressing the state-level launch of the “Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat -Sankalp Abhiyan”. Stressing that the fight against drug abuse cannot be won by the government alone, Sawant said it requires the active participation of society, families, educational institutions and community members.
The Chief Minister warned that drug peddlers often lure young people by initially supplying narcotic substances free of cost through friends and acquaintances before gradually trapping them in addiction. He said such addiction not only destroys the future of youth but also pushes many towards criminal activities, including theft, to sustain their dependence on drugs.
Calling for greater public vigilance, Sawant urged citizens, especially teachers, to identify students and young people showing signs of substance abuse and ensure they receive appropriate counselling and rehabilitation.
He said timely intervention can help prevent addiction from ruining lives and safeguard the future of the younger generation.
The campaign was launched as part of the nationwide “Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat - Sankalp Abhiyan”, during which Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually addressed participants across the country and reiterated the Centre’s commitment to building a drug-free India.
