Police Head Constable Samir Fadte has been suspended after allegedly driving a tinted SUV dangerously close to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s convoy at Amona last week.
The late-night episode unfolded on June 11 when the Mahindra SUV allegedly driven by Fadte came alarmingly close to the CM’s convoy while it was passing through Amona. Sources said the vehicle was attempting to overtake the convoy when it lost control.
No collision was reported. However, the incident prompted security concerns. The Bicholim police came under scrutiny for allegedly releasing him and four other car occupants without conducting a breathalyser test despite indications that the driver was under the influence of alcohol. The accused were thereafter arrested.
The controversy also revived attention on Fadte’s disciplinary record. In 2024, he was among the police personnel booked in the alleged assault of a fast-food stall owner at Marcel. He was also suspended in 2022 after an FIR was registered over an alleged assault on a fellow police officer following a dispute in the Merces scrapyard area.
