MARGAO
In an apparent bid to woo Saxttikars to vote for the BJP before the State goes to polls on February 14, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday declared that the party would give two ministerial berths to the taluka if Deputy Chief Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar and former MLA Damu Naik make it to the Legislative Assembly from Margao and Fatorda, respectively.
Addressing the media in the presence of party candidates contesting from Salcete, the Chief Minister slammed both Opposition Leader Digambar Kamat and Goa Forward Party chief Vijai Sardesai for playing politics in the name of kabrastan.
Saying the duo has been winning the elections on the minority vote, the Chief Minister demanded to know why Kamat and Sardesai could not address the issue of burial grounds. He further demanded to know why the zone of the Sonsodo land was changed when it was acquired to set up a kabrastan.
Sawant said the BJP will not only win in Margao and Fatorda but Cuncolim as well, even as he exuded confidence that people of Navelim and Curtorim will also rally behind the party candidates Ulhas Tuemkar and Anthony Barbosa, respectively.
“In Velim, our candidate Savio Rodrigues has evoked good response from the people and so was the case of Datta Borkar in Nuvem and Damodar Bandodkar in Benaulim. I want to tell Saxttikars that the taluka will get two representations in the BJP government that would be formed after the election”, he asserted.
The Chief Minister singled out Opposition leader Digambar Kamat and Goa Forward Party chief Vijai Sardesai in his criticism. In fact, Sawant challenged Kamat to save him from a defeat in Margao, saying the BJP will win the seat with the help of all sections of people, including the minorities.
Sawant said only the BJP can form the government in the coming election.
“The common party in the ensuing polls is the BJP. Hence, only we are in a position to form the government. I have got positive vibes from Salcete as well”, he said.
Referring to Kamat’s jibe that the BJP has foisted Ajgaonkar on Madgavkars after rejection from the people of Pernem, Sawant asserted that the BJP has brought Ajgaonkar to Margao to defeat the Opposition Leader, saying Kamat has by now realized that he is getting defeated this time around.
In his address, Ajgaonkar said all sections of the society are looking for a change in Margao, saying the BJP will get an additional seat this time around with Margao coming into the party’s kitty.
Fatorda candidate Damu Naik appealed to the people to vote for the BJP, saying only the BJP can provide a stable government in the next five years.
