SANGUEM
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant is reported to have directed the PWD to urgently repair two dilapidated roads leading to two remote villages in Sanguem and Quepem talukas before the monsoons.
Former MLA Sanguem Subhash Phaldessai said the chief minister had responded to his petition, highlighting the bad condition of roads leading to the hilly areas of Verlem-Salgini in Sanguem taluka as well as Korla and Kazur in Quepem taluka.
In his memorandum, Phaldessai claimed that roads in both villages, constructed barely eight years ago, were in dilapidated condition and some portions of the road in these hilly areas had been washed away.
He informed that villagers have been facing great difficulty to travel on the dilapidated road, especially during emergencies.
Last year, the KTC had also threatened to withdraw its lone KTC bus service to Salgini village after the severely damaged road had posed a great risk to life.
Later, locals of Salgini had even threatened to boycott the Zilla Panchayat elections and it was only after the government officials assured to repair the road that the local withdrew their protest and voted in the ZP elections. However, authorities are yet to repair the road till date.
Phaldessai stated that the chief minster, on receiving his petition, immediately directed PWD Executive Engineer Ganesh Velip to urgently repair the two roads, one leading to Salgini in Sanguem and the other leading to Kazur and Korla in Quepem before the monsoon.
