PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday flagged off 10 firefighting vehicles, eight motorcycles and a 42-metre hydraulic ladder for the Directorate of Fire & Emergency Services to strengthen the State's emergency response and firefighting capabilities.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister said the vehicles and equipment were procured with funding from the 15th Finance Commission and the Goa Government. “Whether rescuing people at waterfalls or responding to emergencies late at night, the department personnel are always on duty. With the help of these facilities, officers will be better equipped to provide assistance during emergencies,” said CM
The new firefighting vehicles will be deployed at the Margao, Ponda, Vasco, Canacona, Curchorem, Pilerne and Pernem fire stations, while the 42-metre hydraulic ladder will be stationed at the department's headquarters. The eight motorcycles will be deployed at Vasco, Bicholim, Valpoi, Kundaim, Curchorem, Margao and Canacona to enable quicker emergency response.
Director of Fire & Emergency Services Dr. Nitin V. Raiker said the department will leverage modern technology to further enhance public safety and emergency infrastructure across the State.
He reaffirmed the department's commitment to its motto, "We Serve to Save," adding that the newly inducted vehicles will be deployed across Goa wherever required to strengthen firefighting and emergency services.
