Cumbarjua MLA Rajesh Faldessai has stated that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has agreed to transfer the Banastarim mishap case to Crime Branch as demanded by the Divar locals and activists.
Faldessai made the statement to reporters after his meeting with the chief minister on Wednesday.
“I along with a delegation of the locals and family members of Phadte family met the chief minister and demanded that the case be handed over to Crime Branch as we have lost faith in the Mardol police,” Faldessai informed.
“The chief minister has agreed to our demand and has informed that necessary directions in this regard would be issued tomorrow,” the MLA added.
Adv Raviraj Chodankar, who accompanied the delegation, informed that their other demand is that the investigation should be overseen by a retired judge and the real culprit should be brought to book.
“We have also demanded that narco test be conducted on the real accused as well as her husband to reveal the truth,” Adv Chodankar added.
Meanwhile, earlier on Wednesday, a large number of locals from Divar, activists, politicians, among others participated in a candlelight march at Old Goa demanding justice to the victims of Banastarim mishap.
After the march, the participants lit the candles around the statue of Mahatma Gandhi to express their solidarity with the families of the victims of Banastarim mishap.
Speaking after the march, various speakers had demanded that the case be transferred to the Crime Branch as people have lost faith in the Mardol police.
Among those who spoke at the meeting included TMC’s Samil Volvoikar, NGZP chairperson Siddesh Naik, and others.
