PANAJI
The High Court of Bombay at Goa is likely to hear the bail application of the drunk driving accused, Shripad Sinai Sawardekar aka Paresh, on Thursday. The businessman is currently in judicial lock-up at Colvale Central Jail after serving over a week in police custody at Mardol police station.
Paresh had moved the High Court on August 10 after the lower court rejected his application acknowledging that alcohol content exceeded the permissible limit of 30mg. The Court also accepted the police report that empty Carlsberg beer bottles, Bisleri plastic (water) bottles containing ‘alcohol smelling liquid’ were stored in the Mercedes car GA-07-K-7311 which the accused was driving.
On the other hand, his wife, Meghana’s interim anticipatory bail has been further extended as the trial court has scheduled the hearing on August 23. The woman is facing allegations of evading police inquiry as she has failed to respond to two notices citing ill-health. Amid all this, she filed a separate plea in the high court, reason for which is not revealed.
The police have recorded the statement of the couple’s children who were accompanying them en route to Panaji after a party at Ponda, when the accident took place.
