CM invokes Ambedkar, says all equal for BJP

Promises foundation stone for Ambedkar Bhavan this year

CM invokes Ambedkar, says all equal for BJP

PANAJI
The Goa government is in the process of setting up an Ambedkar Bhavan in Porvorim, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said on Thursday, even as he espoused the need to carry forward Dr Babasaheb Amdekar’s ideals.

Likening his government’s ideals to those of Ambedkar, Sawant said: “Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar did not believe in the caste structure. He said there should be no difference between people. All people are equal. Our government is taking forward the same ideals, by reaching out to everyone.”

Speaking at a function organised to commemorate the birth anniversary of Babasaheb Ambedkar, Sawant said that like the author of the Indian Constitution, his government too never discriminated between castes.

“The issue of setting up an Ambedkar Bhavan has been pending for a while. You have been giving me proposals for the setting up of an Ambedkar Bhavan somewhere in Porvorim. But in my last tenure, we were able to provide land through the aegis of the Social Welfare Department,” Sawant said.

“We will lay the foundation stone when the project is tendered. We will start work on it as well as lay the foundation stone this year. While constructing the Ambedkar Bhavan our thoughts will be on youth who want to come to Panaji to study. They can stay there. Ambedkar Bhavan will be used for such purposes,” he further said.

Earlier, while speaking at a function at the Fire and Emergency Services headquarters in Panaji, Sawant assured the uniformed personnel that his government would promptly clear proposals related to upgradation and new equipment required by the department.

“Whatever upgradation or various equipment they need. In the last three years of my tenure, different kinds of equipment have been purchased by the department. Whatever proposal they have made to the government, especially the fire safety allowance, the government will take steps to fulfil it,” Sawant said.
